Guest of Honor: Maternal Mental Health with Morgan of Buru
Up to 1 in 5 women will struggle with anxiety or depression prenatal or postpartum, according to the CDC. Yet the Blue Dot Project finds that only 15% of those women end up receiving needed care.
When we are told how joyous we should feel, it can be awfully difficult to speak up when we are dealing with those symptoms as a mother. Through our conversation today with Morgan, founder and owner of Buru, a fabulous women’s clothing brand, we hope to start the conversation.
Let's bring more understanding to the area of mental health, that there is certainly no shame in getting the help our body needs as it navigates its changing chemistry, and make it the norm to ask one another how we are doing. Morgan shares her inspiring and authentic story with all of us today, and I'm so honored to introduce her!
In edition to our conversation and the incredibly curated collection at Buru, Morgan’s company is also giving back to mental health. Through their Vive La Mere (long live the mother) collection, Buru is donating 20% of each piece sold to Bring Change to Mind. This non-profit is doing such fantastic work to help end the stigma around mental health. I’m so excited for my first Buru item from the Vive La Mere collection to arrive, and I hope you will take a peak too!

Take Home Tip:
For you: Morgan recommends getting dressed, and I can’t agree enough! Especially on days when we are struggling, and especially right now as we find ourselves at home, putting on an outfit we love can bring that certain spark of joy. Buru makes chic clothing in bright colors, all that are comfortable and easy to be on the go in to. Take a look for yourself!
For others: This week, think of a few close friends and check in on them, ask how they are doing. Whether that is through picking up the phone or sending a quick text, it’s important. Through creating space in the friendship to talk authentically about how we are doing, you’re modeling what it means to have authentic conversations around mental health too.
