Guest of Honor: Live Meditation and Gratitude with Clinton

Grab a drink of your choice (I've got my coffee) and join us for a live meditation with fellow Graduate College of Social Work colleague, Clinton! We start out our discussion on gratitude. We are awfully good at focusing on the negatives around us..what didn't go right, what is worrying us, did my words come across ok? But those pockets of good things sprinkled throughout our days? We are sometimes all too quick to move past them.

By actively slowing down, and expressing gratitude for the good things in our life, from relationships to the joys of a cup of coffee, we can feel our mood shift. Research shows that it not only aids in reducing depressive symptoms, but it increases our positive moods as well.

The art of slowing down in our fast-paced world can be hard. Yet, research shows that we are more productive, and feel happier when we do. Join us for our conversation and this meditation, and begin to take action toward gratitude. Sending love and light your way as you do.

Coffee

During the meditation, I used my favorite cup of morning coffee. Make time, even if five minutes, to sit with your morning up. Those few slow moments can be a powerful way to start your day.

Take Home Tip:

After listening to the meditation, continue to seek ways in your week to keep up the practice. Explore free meditations online or via Headspace, Calm, or Peloton. Make a goal to write down three points of gratitude each day this week over your morning coffee (bonus if you can think of three things you were grateful for from the day before.) Share your light of the day with yourself or your partner before going to sleep at night.

The more we make time for slowing down, for gratitude, the more our practice will grow. And the more we will be able to cultivate some light and positivity in our days too.
