Around the Table Supper Club

It’s no secret that I believe some of life’s most important conversations happen around the table. People propose around the table, they catch up with a friend over coffee at the bistro table in a café. After a funeral, we gather together for a meal. It’s a place where often, even if only around that table, we have real, meaningful conversations.

Talking about real topics is good for us too. For many of us, we experience some big important things, but they tend to hang out inside, never talked about, for fear of being taboo, having differing opinions, or maybe sometimes we just don’t have the words to talk about hard things. Sometimes that means those big, important, hard things hang out inside of us, isolating, making us feel like we’re the only ones. This doesn’t feel too good, and it’s not good for us either.

That’s what Around the Table is all about. Using a background in mental health theories and practices, including culinary therapy, we gather in the kitchen to cook together. We explore the communication we use, how the ingredients we use can offer a moment of mindfulness, what it feels like to combine separate things to create one beautiful meal. Then, we gather around the table. Using a general topic or discussion prompt, we explore those big, important, (and sometimes hard) things. And just like the food combined to make a whole, we too will go from thinking “maybe I’m the only one” to recognizing the shared experience we have- all done Around The Table.

What’s Included?

  • a 30 minute zoom or phone consult with myself to learn more about what you hope to get out of the gathering, your favorite dishes, and to finalize a topic and menu.

  • An email invite to all of your guests including ingredients they will need and any cooking utensils or materials they should have on hand.

  • When it’s time to host your gathering, I will be walking guests through the process of cooking the entire meal. We’ll then have the joy of getting to gather around the table and eat what we’ve prepared. I will be there for at least an hour, or as you would prefer, to help gently guide the conversation on the given topic or hope you have for the evening.

  • please note at this time due to the nature of the pandemic, all gatherings will be held online.

  • * price for the event can be discussed in the initial meeting or via email. I do not want cost to be a barrier for people to get involved, so please don’t hesitate to reach out!

  • ** Finally, while I call on my experience working as a mental health therapist and therapeutic interventions to design this supper club format, it is not a therapy session. I will be mindful in the facilitation of the evening to help it be a gathering and conversation. If you are looking for further assistance with therapy or are interested in learning more about my work in that regard, please do still reach out!
